Morton Salt Joins How2Recycle Program To Help Consumers Properly Recycle Packaging

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, September 23, 2019 — Morton Salt, the iconic American salt brand, is the latest company to join the How2Recycle label program. Consumers will begin to see the How2Recycle label on Morton products including all water softener salt, pool salt, and ice melt products along with many culinary salt products in the company’s portfolio, most notably its flagship table salt canister. By using the How2Recycle label, Morton joins hundreds of other companies who are helping consumers by taking the guesswork out of how to properly recycle packaging.

Among the first Morton products to be labeled are Morton® Pool Salt bags, which are recyclable at Store Drop-Off along with other plastic grocery bags, paper towel plastic wrap, and dry cleaning bags, among other plastic items. Many retail locations across the U.S. collect these materials including Walmart, Target, and more.

“Salt plays an important role in our lives, and now the most iconic salt brand is leveraging the How2Recycle label to help people know exactly how to recycle the packaging it comes in,” said Kelly Cramer, lead of How2Recycle at Sustainable Packaging Coalition. “We are delighted to welcome Morton Salt to the group of over 175 brandowners and retailers in the How2Recycle program using this voluntary labeling scheme to standardize recycling claims.”

Morton Salt’s participation in the How2Recycle program is an extension of the brand’s Walk Her Walk platform – a promise to make a positive impact in the world, inspired by the iconic Morton Salt Girl.

“We’re always looking for ways to drive forward progress as part of ‘Walk Her Walk,’ and recycling is one of the many ways we can make a real, tangible difference in the world,” said Denise Lauer, Morton Salt CMO. “Our partnership with How2Recycle and our commitment to printing recycling labels on our products – from cardboard table salt containers to plastic pool salt bags — will help ensure consumers properly dispose of our packaging to reduce waste and impact on the environment.”

The How2Recycle label is the only North American-based recycling label that is standardized across all packaging types and is the only label to offer comprehensive instructions on packaging recyclability in an easy to understand format. Tens of thousands of name brand products already feature the label and it can be found in retailers in hundreds of stores across the country.
