How A Water Softener Works

Watch to Learn how a Water Softener Works

Hard water enters your home through intake pipes and passes through your softener resin tank before going to your water-using appliances. In the water softening process, magnesium and calcium ions, along with soluble iron and manganese ions, bond with the charged resin beads and are removed from the water entering your system.

Plain salt pellets do not prevent a gradual deterioration of resin beads in that process. Over time, resin beads become depleted more quickly between regeneration cycles– allowing more hardness minerals to enter into your system.

Morton® Clean and Protect™ Pellets with their patented formula is more effective at regenerating resin beads, reducing their rate of depletion and keeping water softer, longer.
