How a Water Softener Works
How does a water softener work?
Ideally, the process works like this. Hard water enters your plant through intake pipes and passes through your softener resin tank. Magnesium and calcium ions, along with soluble iron and manganese ions, bond with the charged resin beads and are removed from the water entering your system.
Plain salt pellets can't prevent a gradual deterioration in that process. Resin beads become partially depleted more quickly – allowing these destructive hardness minerals to enter into your system.
Morton® System Saver® II Pellets are more effective. They work better at regenerating resin beads, thereby reducing their rate of depletion and keeping water softer, longer. More importantly, you'll have less frequent need for costly resin bead replacement.
