Hard Water:
Simple Causes, Major Effects

What Is Hard Water?

As rainwater passes through the earth into lakes, streams and ground water, it picks up certain “hardness” minerals such as calcium and magnesium – minerals that will clog pipes, and may damage your appliances. Iron can be particularly troublesome, leaving rust stains.

The ion-exchange process in a water softener removes hardness, commonly known as “softening” the water. This reduces the maintenance associated with cleaning or replacing processing pipes and appliances that are clogged with hardness deposits.
